Turn Your iPhone into a ChatGPT Assistant with a New Action Button
The latest iPhones allow users to customize the new Action Button to trigger AI voice assistant ChatGPT, providing a smarter alternative to Siri.
• iPhone's new Action Button can now provide a smarter alternative to Siri.
• ChatGPT offers more conversational capabilities and complex queries.
• Customizing the Action Button makes iPhone 15 Pro devices smarter.
ChatGPT as a feature for iPhone
With OpenAI making ChatGPT Voice access free for all users this week, iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max owners can now customize their device’s new Action Button to turn it into a dedicated trigger for ChatGPT’s AI assistant features.
The move allows users to ditch Siri in favour of the more capable ChatGPT assistant.
The configurable button replaces the previous mute switch and can be set to various uses, like opening the Camera or flashlight via the iOS settings.
But users can also choose the “Shortcut” option to tie it to triggers for other apps - ChatGPT included.
Users head to Settings > Action Button to set up and choose the “Shortcut” option. From there, they select the ChatGPT app and its existing “Start voice conversation” shortcut.
After a quick setup, pressing and holding the button activates ChatGPT’s voice features and allows users to ask questions by speaking.
Leaving Apple’s Siri in the dust
ChatGPT offers more conversational capabilities than Apple’s Siri assistant and can handle more complex queries, follow-up questions, and even basic reasoning. Users can choose from five voices - Ember, Sky, Breeze, Juniper, and Cove.
While ChatGPT makes an obvious use case for the button, Apple also allows users to trigger first-party apps like Camera or customize their shortcuts—third-party apps like Halide, Instapaper, and Starbucks support Action Button integration.
So, if you just upgraded to an iPhone 15 Pro, customizing the Action Button could make your device smarter than ever, thanks to ChatGPT’s advanced voice assistant features.
Just make sure to head into your Settings first.
